Manchester United chief executive David Gill has ruled out any more signings before the transfer window closes.
United have been very restrained in the summer window - especially compared to neighbours City - bringing in Chris Smalling, Javier Hernandez, Marnick Vermijl and striker Bebe.
But Gill believes the squad is strong enough to compete.
Gill said: "Hopefully we've got the right numbers to compete on all fronts for the rest of the year.
"We've never bought older stars. We turn talented youngsters into top top stars. We've done it with Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney, Anderson and Nani.
"We think Bebe will fit into that profile - so our policy hasn't changed. But if there's a player who Sir Alex Ferguson thinks would change things we would go with it."
United yesterday discovered their Champions League group opponents at the draw in Monaco and they will be favourites to top a Group C that also includes Spanish side Valencia, Scottish champions Rangers and Turkey's Bursaspor.
The two clashes with the Ibrox side will see United boss Sir Alex Ferguson come up against former assistant Walter Smith.
Smith, who will retire at the end of the season, was Ferguson's number two when the Red Devils won the FA Cup in 2004.
The United boss told ManUtd.com: "You can't complain about that, it's a good draw for us. You always look at the travelling side of it and the only one that's of any great distance is the trip to Turkey.
"Walter Smith's already been on the phone, talking about tickets for Old Trafford! Like me, he's really looking forward to our games against each other."
Gill echoed Ferguson's sentiments, saying: "It's going to be interesting. I think it's a good draw and hopefully we can progress through the group into the knockout stages.
"Obviously Sir Alex and [Rangers manager] Walter Smith go back a long, long way. I remember when we played up there in 2003 and Phil Neville scored a fairly rare goal for us. The atmosphere at Ibrox was amazing, similar to how it is at Celtic Park.
"I know the fans will get behind it and both games will be great occasions. I've already spoken to Sir Alex and he's looking forward to the Rangers matches immensely."United happy with current squad 480443_33_preview
