MICHAEL CARRICK should be fit for the start of the new season despite an injury scare.
The Manchester United midfielder took a knock on his ankle in United's 7-1 win over a League of Ireland XI last night.
It will rule him out of the Community Shield against Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday.
But United No2 Mike Phelan insists Carrick's injury is not likely to keep him on the sidelines for long.
Phelan said: "We don't think it's anything serious. We'll have another look at it in the morning.
"As a precaution if you get something like that then you have to come away early and we'll have a look at it today.
United full-backs Rafael and Fabio missed the clash at Dublin's brand new Aviva Stadium.
And Phelan added: "They came down with a little bit of a bug yesterday afternoon.
"They weren't too good this morning but we decided to bring them with us, and during the course of the day they got a little bit worse.
"There was no point risking them. They just sat in the stand, watching the game."
