17:02 Sol Campbell might be heading to Old Trafford... with Newcastle on the first day of the season. According to Caughtoffside.com, the free agent (his short-term deal with Arsenal expired over the summer) has already visited Celtic's training ground, although he's also considering a move to St James' Park (Newcastle's ground – don't worry, he's not about to set up his caravan near Buckingham Palace). Back in January, Campbell admitted he'd "love to play for Manchester United". So would I, Sol.
16:03 So today looks like the day of the denial, the day when I tell you all about the players that won't be coming to Old Trafford. It's a little against the spirit of the blog, I admit, but as the Rolling Stones sung, you can't always get what you want. The latest player staying put at his current club appears to be Wolfsburg striker Edin Dzeko. Despite reported interest from a number of clubs, including United and Manchester City, Wolfsburg general manager Dieter Hoeness insists: "We want him to stay on at the club. This is what I have told his agent." Well, that's what sport.co.uk are reporting, anyway.
