Fergie: Rooney worked his socks off! Empty

Sir Alex Ferguson prefers to focus on Wayne Rooney's all-round contribution to the Manchester United cause.
He did not want to talk too much about the fact that his number one striker finally ended his 13-match goal drought against West Ham.
Rooney belted home the first-half penalty that set United on their way to a 3-0 defeat of West Ham at Old Trafford on Saturday night.
It was Rooney's first goal since March, a period of time that has included a niggling ankle injury and that deflating World Cup campaign.
But, although Ferguson claimed the 24-year-old is still to reach full fitness after his summer exertions, he believes he is making a vital contribution to the Old Trafford cause.
"Strikers want to score," stressed Ferguson.
"But it is Wayne's performance that we should be talking about.
"He was full of life and energy. He worked his socks off.
"He needs games but the 90 minutes will bring him on."
For once, Ferguson is happy to have a couple of international fixtures for Rooney to concentrate on, which he feels will ensure his main striker is fully primed for the visit to Everton on September 11.
At least United already have one striker in top form.
Dimitar Berbatov scored for the third time this season to wrap up the victory, his acrobatic volley capping a fine individual display.
"Dimitar and Paul Scholes orchestrated that victory," said Ferguson.
"They deserved their standing ovation and Dimitar's goal was excellent."
Another Scholes masterclass was delivered in front of Fabio Capello, who was so desperate to have the 35-year-old in South Africa this summer.
But Ferguson also had words of praise for Nani, who scorched through the Hammers defence to grab United's killer second shortly after the break.
"You have to win your home games and we are back on track after dropping those two points at Fulham last week," said Ferguson.
"It is too early to say what formation the league is taking at present but the usual suspects are up there."
The good news for United, who are set to release Tom Cleverley on loan to either Wigan or Bolton until January, is balanced by the difficulties West Ham are experiencing.
Three successive defeats have left Avram Grant's men bottom of the table and staring at a difficult campaign ahead.
"We knew before it began that it would be a tough season," he said.
"We are trying to change some things but it will take more than three or five games to judge us. We need a lot more than that.
"People can say what they like about this performance but we tried our best."
Grant will spend the next few days busily trying to bring in some more new faces, although he insists Scott Parker will remain at Upton Park beyond the August 31 deadline.
"I hope to bring another two or three players in but Scott will stay," said Grant.
"We cannot spend a lot of money and it is not going to be easy, but we will try."
Grant also confirmed keeper Robert Green will enter hospital for what has been described as "a small procedure" to his hip this week but is expected to be fit for the Premier League encounter with Chelsea in a fortnight.Fergie: Rooney worked his socks off! 491732_33_preview
