MANCHESTER CITY new boy Yaya Toure rejected a switch to rivals United.
The £24million midfield ace claims he had the chance to move from Barcelona last summer, soon after helping down Alex Ferguson's men in the Champions League final.
He said: "Last year Manchester United were interested in signing me.
"When I was talking about renewing my my contract, United asked if I wanted to sign.
"Manchester United is a big club, one of the biggest in the world. But City was an interesting challenge for me."
Toure decided to stay at the Nou Camp rather than move to Old Trafford.
But 12 months later, he has been lured to Eastlands and is reported to be the Premier League's best-paid player, with wages of around £180,000 a week.
Yet he insists the City challenge and the prospect of teaming up with brother Kolo were key.
Toure, in New York on City's American tour, said: "I wanted to play with my brother one time. It is not about the money."
